This journey takes you through one of the richest and most enchanting Pharaonic archaeological trails in Upper Egypt, combining the grandeur of the Temple of Abydos with the spirit and artistry of the Temple of Dendera.
We’ll start at your accommodation or hotel and then head to Abydos; a city located 260 kilometers northeast of the city.
In Abydos, we’ll see its famous temple, built by Set I in honor of Osiris. In this temple, you’ll not only find important scenes from the lives of Set I and Ramesses II, but also the famous Royal Lists, bearing the names of the seventy-seven kings of Egypt, from Menes to Set I himself.
Abydos was the most important religious center and pilgrimage site in Egypt. Here, you can see representations of the “Mysteries of Osiris,” rituals depicting the death and resurrection of the god Osiris.
Afterwards, we’ll have a light lunch and then head to Dendera, dedicated to the goddess Hathor. Construction began during the reign of Nectanebo I and continued until the Roman era. The temple includes two decorated crypts, two halls with columned ceilings, and two funerary chapels, from which the famous “Zodiac” statue from the Louvre descends. After our final stop at the Temple of Isis, we will depart Dendera and head back to Luxor, returning to our accommodation between 5 and 6 pm.
